Want to save money on logo design? Do you have a creative flair? Here are five tips for creating your own professional logo:
Tip #1: Understand Logos
What is a logo? What is it supported to do? It is supposed to reflect your business in a manner that inspires confidence and respect for your company and product or service.
Tip #2: Understand the Principles of Design
What makes a great logo?
Jacob Cass says that a logo must be:
**Describable
**Memorable
**Effective without color
**Scalable (effective when just an inch in size)
Tip #3: Do Market Research
Think about successful logos, like McDonalds, Target and Nike. Now think about logos you’ve seen that look too busy, where you don’t know what the picture is and can’t describe, or that have a lot of words. Next time you are a passenger in a car, look at store fronts around you and try to identify the “good” and “bad” logos.
Tip #4: Create Your Design Process
Feel free to be flexible, but for professional logo designers, Mr. Cass says that the process usually consists of:
**The Design Brief
**Research and Brainstorming
**Sketching
**Prototyping and Conceptualizing
**Send to Client for Review
**Revise and Add Finishing Touches
**Supply Files to Client and Provide Customer Service
Tip #5: Purchase Software and Create
After brainstorming your logo and making a preliminary sketch, load up your logo software and start working with the features to design your logo. Don’t pressure yourself to get it done all at once. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day! Do an initial design, then let it marinate for a few days and come back to it. Repeat this process as you continue to observe logos in your community and on television, and let your logo evolve.
Have fun creating!
